Weather permitting, Friday military dress parades return this week. The traditions of United States military reviews and parades began at Valley Forge. At that time, brigades of soldiers were formed in order of battle. Modern day ceremonies are conducted to render honors, preserve tradition, and foster esprit de corps. The Jan. 18 parade begins at 3:45 p.m. Parade schedule.

The Daniel Library Friends spring books and lecture series begins Tuesday with a look at Franklin D. Roosevelt as commander in chief in World War II. Lectures are free and open to the public. Click here for a complete schedule.

Athletic standouts on the hard court, diamond and football field will return to The Citadel in February as part of Black History Month. "Beyond the Playing Field" will explore life after athletics and the achievements of accomplished athletes away from their field of play.

Fox News' Frank Luntz talked to cadets Thursday evening about the impact young voters can make in this year's election. Luntz was on campus getting feedback from cadets on issues and candidates and hosting a voter focus group in response to the Republican debate in Myrtle Beach.

Sen. John McCain made an appearance in Mark Clark Hall Wednesday as part of his presidential campaign. The visit allowed students, faculty and staff the opportunity to meet the presidential candidate and hear him speak. Eight Democratic candidates for president visited the college in July for a nationally televised debate.

Last semester, 648 cadets and 26 active duty military students performed well enough academically to earn placement on the Dean's List and to receive Gold Stars. Gold Stars will be presented at the Friday dress parade on Feb. 1.

Cadets and graduate students return to campus this week for the spring semester. Graduate classes begin today and the Corps of Cadets will hit the books on Wednesday. The first military dress parade of the new year will be at 3:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.
